GUEST PHOTOGRAPHER: JACKIE DE NIO
These are photos of this year's World Ice Art Championship held annually in Fairbanks, Alaska.
My husband and I went with Jackie and Eddie. Jackie took all the photos.
The Ice Arts begin the last week of February each year and go to the end of March, though truthfully, by March 31st, the sculptures are starting to melt.

Here I am as an Eskimo! Appropriate, since I live close to the Arctic Circle!
WORLD ICE ART CHAMPIONSHIP.
Founded in April 1990, the Ice Alaska organization is truly volunteer driven. It is powered by over 90 committees, a nine member board of directors, and over 300 volunteers. The 2014 event hosted over 100 ice artists, representing 9 countries and, many areas of the United States.
In past years, artists from 45 countries have competed in the BP World Ice Art Championships. The result is over 100 competition sculptures and exhibition pieces, and the ever-expanding playful ice attractions in the Kids Park.

We all spent some time hanging out in the ice cabin. It was actually a little warmer in there than out in the cold!
Not part of the ice park, but the Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis happens during the winter near Arctic regions such as Fairbanks, Alaska. These lights were seen not far from the ice park, during March. Jackie and Eddie got some great aurora pictures, but it means late nights, standing in the cold and patience! (And a great camera).
I'd like to thank Jackie and Eddie for letting me use their photos for my blog! Happy travels, guys!
